Consumers to select their top wines

Paarl: 15 October 2010, Rhebokskloof Estate, 17:00 - 22:00

Fans of Shiraz and Chenin Blanc will once again play judge at the annual Santam Agriculture Paarl Consumer Tasting on Friday 15 October at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate.

Wine tasting guilds, wine clubs and other vinous enthusiasts are invited to pit their wits against the judging panel and cast their votes for the Consumers’ Choice Awards.

New to the event is a pre-tasting of top Paarl Chenin Blanc and Shiraz; this to take place at 5pm, before the seated event.

The blind tasting will then commence at 6.30pm, with Charles Hopkins once again leading enthusiasts through the winning wines chosen at the Santam Agricultural Paarl Shiraz Chenin Challenge that took place in July.

Two panels of noted critics officiated this year; first selecting the top ten Shiraz and top six Chenin Blanc wines, from there selecting the winning three in each category. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony held at Windmeul cellar on Friday 13 August 2010.

The Santam Agriculture Paarl Shiraz Chenin Challenge is now in its forteenth year; the tenth anniversary seeing the inclusion of the
Consumer Tasting and Consumers’ Choice Awards.

The tasting has become tremendously popular for its informative yet informal glimpse into two of the cultivars for which Paarl is becoming particularly well known.

The ticket price of R120 includes the pre-tasting, seated tasting, and light snacks; and can be reserved through Paarl Vintners on 021 863 4886 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
